Definition of International Accounting Standards IAS

A set of accounting standards developed and supervised by the UK-based International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). While the IASB has no authority to require countries to comply with its standards, many jurisdictions around the world do so. The most notable exception is the US, which is governed by its own Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
