Definition of carbon neutral

Companies usually achieve carbon-neutral status by cutting greenhouse gas emissions, investing in renewable energy and using other resources more sparingly. The emissions they cannot cut, they offset - for instance by planting trees, supporting the production of green electricity and buying carbon credits etc.  This is also known as carbon off setting. [1]
